What Affects Custom Bag MOQ?

Understand how materials, colour allocation, custom trims and construction affect bag MOQ, then prepare a clear specification for quotation and feasibility review.

Liora International Ltd3 min read

Custom bag minimum order quantity (MOQ) depends on material sourcing minimums, colour splits, custom trims and construction. For Liora International Ltd, the typical carry MOQ is 300 pieces per style per colour; apparel is 50 pieces per style. These are planning references, not unconditional order acceptance. New-product pilot flexibility is assessed case by case through feasibility review and is never promised.

For importers and distributors, retailers, and SME or independent brands developing Functional Carry & Textile Solutions, a useful starting point is a clear specification—not simply a total quantity.

Material sourcing minimums

A bag order uses more than its outer fabric. Lining, foam, webbing and binding may each have separate purchasing requirements. Ask whether the proposed specification uses available stock or requires a new dyeing, coating or lamination batch. Confirm usable fabric width and estimated consumption before treating a fabric minimum as a finished-bag quantity.

Choosing an available material can simplify sourcing, but may restrict texture, weight or colour. A bespoke material may better match the brief while introducing additional purchasing commitments. Request both options; do not assume either automatically reduces the carry MOQ.

Colours and allocation

Treat each style-colour combination as its own planning unit. Do not assume several colours can be pooled to meet the typical 300-piece reference. Confirm the proposed allocation before sampling.

Decide whether lining, webbing, binding and zipper tape must match the shell exactly or can use a shared neutral colour. A common trim palette can reduce the number of distinct specifications, but availability and minimums still need confirmation. Approve physical colour references rather than relying only on screen images.

Custom trims and construction

Specify zipper gauge, length, slider function, finish and tape colour. YKK identifies these as relevant selection details. 1 Decide whether branding needs a new moulded puller or could use an existing puller with a separate logo treatment. YKK describes custom puller materials and colours, including new-design development for a listed option. 2 This supports the design distinction—not a claim that Liora uses a particular supplier or that custom trims have a universal MOQ.

Construction also matters. Extra compartments, shaped padding, reinforcement and specialised seam treatments add development decisions. Simplify only where the intended use permits it. For example, assess pocket layout before adding another zipper. YKK notes that stitching too close to zipper elements can impede operation, 2 so sample review should address assembly as well as appearance.

Checklist before requesting a quotation

  • Identify the bag style, intended use, dimensions and target delivery window.
  • Allocate quantities by style and colour; flag any pilot request for feasibility review.
  • Specify shell, lining, padding and acceptable material alternatives.
  • List colour references, branding methods and every customised trim.
  • Mark essential construction features separately from optional features.
  • Confirm material minimums, tooling costs, unused-material arrangements and sample approval stages.

Scope performance requirements separately

MOQ does not establish durability or water resistance. If these matter, define the intended load, exposure and use conditions, then agree relevant test methods and acceptance criteria for materials, seams, closures or the assembled bag. A component assessment does not establish whole-bag performance. This guide provides no test results or performance guarantee.

Bring this checklist to Liora’s custom bag manufacturing discussion to scope the specification and proposed order.
